NEW schemes to support young people in Witham and Halstead are being launched.

The 'All In' community teams for Witham and Halstead, created by Eastlight Community Homes, have spent the last seven months building one idea which makes a difference to residents’ lives in their town.

This week, each team of local residents will hold launch events to introduce pilot schemes that they have created with their community.

The Witham team will introduce Popcorn at Rivenhall Oaks Golf Club on Wednesday, 25 January.

Popcorn involves young people, aged between 16 and 30, who have become socially isolated after years spent behind a computer screen during the pandemic, being supported by slightly older residents to enter the adult world.

The drop-in event, taking place between 4.30pm and 7pm, will include fun activities including virtual reality experiences and digital graffiti as well as the chance to find out more about the programme.

Then on Friday, 27 January, the Halstead team will launch Grow with the Flow at Si Belle Beauty Salon in Market Hill between 6.30-9pm.

The team have discovered just how little young people know about periods and the stigma attached to the subject.

Grow with the Flow initially involves confidence-boosting sessions with young women in Ramsey Academy and Hedingham School about what a “normal” period is, what products are out there to use and when to seek medical help.

This event is invite only. Please email halstead@weareallin.co.uk to secure a space.
