A NURSERY where children enjoy scavenger hunts and make creations using dough has been rated good by education watchdogs.

Mini Marvels Nursery in Witham achieved the rating in its inspection by Ofsted.

The report had glowing praise for the children and the nursery environment.

It said: “Children are excited and happy as they arrive at the nursery and they are warmly welcomed by attentive, nurturing staff.

“They are eager to investigate the activities provided and quickly settle with their friends.

“Children explore natural materials which engage all their senses. For example, children have immense fun exploring a variety of natural materials they have previously collected on a 'scavenger hunt'.

“They discuss pinecones and feathers, and make creations using dough.”

The report had similar praise for the staff and management.

The report continued: “Skilful staff pose questions that encourage children to think, and they are careful to allow children time to respond.

“The nursery is fully inclusive, and all children make good progress, including those who need additional support.

“The manager is passionate about her role. She demonstrates her commitment to providing children with a wide variety of quality experiences and activities that they can learn from.

“There is a strong focus and commitment to evaluate continuously to ensure outcomes and experiences for children are continually improving.

“The staff comment how much they enjoy their work and feel valued and feel their individual skills are welcomed and acknowledged by the manager.”

Inspectors also hailed the curriculum, saying: “Staff provide a varied curriculum for children with many opportunities to promote their language skills”.

Nursery manager Claire Micallef said: “The whole experience was really positive. The inspector was really lovely and put me at ease, so it was true reflection of what we are like as a team.

“It was just amazing to have the positive experience and what you are doing is the best for the children and that it can be seen.

“It was also lovely to hear the team gave positive comments about me. I built Mini Marvels on a grant from the council seven years ago, so this is a real community project.

“Ofsted is something you typically fear or are nervous about, but we had good preparation we really came together as a team, I am proud of everyone.”
