A COUNCIL has warned members of the public about an advertised Christmas event in Great Notley saying it has not been given the go-ahead to take place.

The 'Enchanted Forest' event has been advertised on social media and online to be taking place for ten days in December at Great Notley Country Park.

It was described as "an enchanted drive-thru experience that's not to be missed with an enchanted tale that unfolds through our wonderful world of reindeer".

The event description added: "With 1.5km of illuminated lakeside and enchanted woodland lighting see our gorgeous reindeer herds in their paddocks and stables and discover our hidden elf villages with a drive-thru elves toy workshop and meet Father Christmas with a gift for every child."

Tickets are being advertised as costing £20 to £35.

However, the public has been warned about buying tickets.

Essex County Council, which runs the park, confirmed it has not received a booking for the venue.

In a joint statement, Braintree Council and Essex County Council said: "We have been made aware of an event being advertised as taking place at Great Notley Country Park titled 'Enchanted Forest' from 14th  24th December 2022.

"Essex County Council, which runs the country park, has confirmed it has not been approached about a booking or given approval for the event, and as far as we know it is not planned to take place.

"We would encourage people who see it being promoted not to be tempted to book tickets or share any personal information.

"If anyone has paid or lost money to a ticket scam, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 and contact your bank or credit card provider.

"More advice is available from Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133.

"Essex County Council has notified Essex Police and trading standards who are now aware of the issue."

Essex Police has also been approached for comment.
