WORK is set to start on a huge million-pound project to redevelop gyms across the Braintree district.

Fusion Lifestyle, Braintree Council’s leisure partner, will be redeveloping Braintree Sport and Health Club, Braintree Swimming and Fitness, Halstead Leisure Centre and Witham Leisure Centre.

The extensive work will see upgrades at all four centres, starting at Braintree Sport and Heath Club in October.

Work will include brand new gyms installed at each site, with each one being completely transformed with new energy efficient equipment installed, a new layout, new lighting, décor and flooring.

A further £260,000 investment from Braintree Council and Tabor Academy will also see the 3G pitch at Braintree Sport and Health Club relayed.

The extensive works mean there will be some disruption at all four centres between October and December.

Members will receive email updates and visitors are asked to keep a close eye on centre websites for the latest information.

CEO of Fusion Lifestyle Anthony Cawley said: “We can’t wait to get these works started and to upgrade the leisure facilities available to residents in the Braintree district.

“We believe in providing quality sport, leisure and fitness activities to the community and the planned redevelopment programme will ensure the centres offer top of the range facilities for many years to come.”

Braintree Council health and wellbeing boss Peter Tattersley added: “We’re pleased to be investing into making improvements to our leisure centres.

“People tell us they want to improve their health and be more active, especially coming out of the pandemic, so we hope the refurbishments will provide higher quality sport, leisure and fitness facilities to support them in becoming active, getting fit and improving their general physical and mental wellbeing.”
