MP James Cleverly paid a visit to a school to open a new state-of-the-art facility.

The Braintree and Halstead MP was at Hedingham School to cut the ribbon at the opening of its new 'T-level' block.

T-levels are a career-based alternative to A-levels and apprenticeships. They are equivalent to three A-levels and are backed by hundreds of British businesses, which have helped design the courses.

The new area comprises of two state-of-the-art classrooms, kitted out with 21st Century computer technology.

There is also a break-out room, which will act as a conference and meeting place.

Hedingham has launched the digital business services T-level and is keen to recruit students from north-east Essex and Suffolk for a September 2023 start.

The two-year course offers the chance to experience an extended work placement, as well as study for the high-profile Level 3 qualification.

The mix of academic study which links closely with industry is the key feature of the course.

Strategic lead for T-levels at Hedingham Darren Batch said: “It’s been a long journey in planning and development to deliver T-levels to Hedingham School, but to now see this fantastic resource open and being used by our students is very rewarding.”

Headteacher Andy Harvison added: “I would like to thank Mr Cleverly for taking time out of his busy schedule and recognising the importance of this qualification at Hedingham School.

“Students enjoyed meeting and talking with him during the visit.

“We now look forward to further development in this area as we strive to broaden the educational pathways for all students.”

IT student Josh Cumbers was one of many who enjoyed the visit.

He said: “I enjoyed showing Mr Cleverly the new computers and new T-level block. It was great to see him visit our school.”
