NEW directional wayfinding signs have been put up across Braintree town centre to celebrate the town’s history.

The five wayfinding monoliths, also act as a navigation guide to help visitors through the town centre.

The signs were designed and shaped in partnership with Braintree District Museum and have been installed in key areas of the town centre.

This includes at Great Square, the High Street, Fairfield Road outside Tesco, outside Braintree train station and in the new Town Hall garden and plaza area on Manor Street.

The monoliths contain information about the area and direct visitors to what facilities are on offer in Braintree, including heritage assets, shopping, leisure facilities and attractions.

These are the first set of signs coming to the town centre, with more being installed in the future.

Braintree Council economic growth boss Tom Cunningham said: “These new signs are a great way of not only providing local information to help guide visitors around the town centre but also promoting the wonderful facilities, attractions and history that Braintree has to offer.”

Chairman of Braintree District Museum Trust Sheila Charrington added: “Braintree Museum is delighted to have been able to provide the historic photographs and highlight some of the fascinating history of the town for visitors and local residents to enjoy from its important local history archive.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to discover more at the Museum.”

The wayfinding investment forms part of Braintree Council’s pedestrianisation scheme, which aims to revitalise and future-proof the town centre.

Various snagging improvements are also continuing to be carried out to the paving and resin in Braintree town centre by the scheme’s contractor, which are due to be complete in the next few weeks.
