A COMPANY has helped a cancer charity to open a special treatment room as a thank you for supporting a staff member’s wife.

Anderson Charitable Foundation has helped Helen Rollason to open their Birch Treatment Room at their Mid Essex Support Centre, in Hatfield Peverel.

The Anderson Foundation is a charitable foundation linked to the Anderson Group, a construction and development company set up in 1987 by Mark Anderson.

At 49, Jo, the wife of Anderson training manager Steve Hammond, was diagnosed with an advanced, aggressive, squamous cell cancer of the bladder.

Mr Hammond said: “The charity has been a huge comfort to us while we have come to terms with Jo’s diagnosis.

“We are utterly thrilled the Anderson Charitable Foundation has picked the charity as one to support.

“Helen Rollason Cancer Charity has helped Jo tremendously through a very difficult time, as well as myself.

“People tend to forget about partners of cancer sufferers who tend to remain on the peripheral of the journey.

“Supporting a loved one with cancer is the most difficult task I have ever had to endure, a feeling of helplessness whilst trying to remain positive, providing support whilst juggling home life and work is a challenge, I don’t wish on anyone.”

Jo added: “The support Helen Rollason has given me has been so beneficial; they provide a personal face to face service which is friendly, welcoming and has an undeniable humanistic approach.

“The staff have helped me to deal with all levels of emotional support and given me the tools I need to get on with my life.”
