THERE has been a sharp rise in the number of patients being treated in hospital for Covid-19.

Latest NHS figures show 63 people were being treated for coronavirus in Mid and South Essex NHS Trust hospitals on September 21 - up from 43 on the same day the previous week.

That was a rise of 46 per cent.

The number of beds at the trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 over the last four weeks was down just over a third from 97, 28 days earlier.

The figures also show 48 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital at the Mid and South Essex NHS Trust in the week to September 19 - up from 30 in the previous seven days.

The East Suffolk and North Essex Trust, which runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, was caring for 28 coronavirus patients in hospital on September 21 - up from 20 on the same day the previous week.
