It has been more than 30 years since the current King last visited the streets of Braintree.

Photographs unearthed by the Times have shown King Charles III’s visit to the area in 1991.

Formerly the Prince of Wales, King Charles assumed the role of monarch following his mother’s sad death last Thursday.

As Prince of Wales, he made countless royal visits across the country.

However, over the years, trips to the Braintree area have been thin on the ground.

And one of the last times he visited was more than 30 years ago in November 1991.

Firstly, the King visited the historic pavements of Bradford Street in Bocking, paying a visit to the Grade II listed Georgian House.

There he met many residents, including Ernest Watson, Doris Pluck and Olive Bean, who he is pictured taking to.

Black and white pictures also show the then Prince visiting Stoke by Nayland and further photos show him visiting Cressing Temple Barns.

There he attended a school exhibition, and he can be seen chatting with pupils from Parsons Heath School in Colchester.

It remains to be seen if Charles will visit the Braintree district again now he is King, but residents would be more than happy to have him back.
