COMIC book characters came to life once again as an independent business hosted another successful charity day.
Braintree’s Blast Music and Comics held its second cosplay event of the year, to celebrate the town’s independent businesses and raise money for charity.
The first was held in March to celebrate Blast’s reopening, with this event similar in size and success.
Synergy Cosplay returned, dressing up as favoured characters.
Money was also raised on the day for charity Autism Anglia.
Manager of Blast Comics Charlie Kayley said: “When we did the first one, it created a great relationship with Synergy Cosplay Group and Autism Anglia too.
“Raising money through these events has been something we are keen on continuing to do.
“We are hoping to now hold three events like this each year, two organised by the independents and the other tying in with the Christmas lights switch on.”
The event saw multiple characters coming to life, with children also joining in the fun.
There was a scavenger hunt for attendees, passing by the independent businesses that took part, each one giving guests a sticker.
Taking part on the day was Shake Express, Angel Shop, Fleurations, Care Dry Cleaners, Your Market, Valeni the Little Acorn, Harchey’s Equinox, Natural Way, CDs Sandwich Shop, Stylistics and The Boars Head.
In total, about £300 was raised for Autism Anglia, with more still rolling in.
Charlie said the event is not only important in raising money for charity, but boosting the support of independent businesses.
He said: “It is really important in Braintree, because we are monopolised by big businesses.
"It is important for locals to remember we have our independent shops, a quirky side to Braintree town that offer different and also similar things."
Braintree MP James Cleverly also came on the day.
Charlie added: “James has always been a supporter of BLAST and other independent businesses.
“He donated and had his picture taken, we thanked him for coming, and he posted it online, which again is great publicity for our businesses.”
