A FIELD fire that burned for two hours caused a main road to be closed.

Crews were called to Bakers Lane in Black Notley at 1.35pm yesterday, Monday, August 8.

On arrival, Firefighters confirmed ten acres of stubble, hedgerow and woodland were alight. 

As a result, Bakers Lane was closed to traffic in both directions.

Traffic was slow in and around the area whilst the flames were extinguished.

A spokesman for Essex Fire said: “Crews worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby houses and industrial estate, using backpacks and beaters to extinguish the fire by 3.29pm.

“The cause of the fire is not known but believed to be accidental.”
