ONE lane of the A12 has been closed at Kelvedon after an accident.

A vehicle crashed into the central reservation between junction 23, Kelvedon north, and junction 24 at Kelvedon south.

As a result, the Colchester-bound road was completely blocked, with traffic slow back until junction 22 - Witham north.

Lane two is currently closed on the A12 Colchester-bound between junctions 23 and 24, causing three miles of congestion, and up to 25 minutes of delays.

The lane has been closed while repairs are carried out to the barrier.

There are queues on the Kelvedon bypass and through Kelvedon on London Road and the High Street.

Traffic is also slow on the Londonbound approach, as cars were approaching the scene.

One person has also been sent to hospital for care following the incident.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We sent one ambulance to the A12 at Feering after receiving reports of a collision at around 7.10am today.

"Crews treated one patient at the scene before transporting them to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care."

Following the accident, Essex Police have advised drivers to avoid the route, and have said that they are looking for anyone with dashcam footage to help with their investigation.

A spokesman said: "Please avoid the area if you can and plan your journey.

"We need anyone who saw anything or has any dash cam footage to contact us.

"If you have any information you can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm.

"Please quote incident 184 of 18 May.

"You can also call us on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

All lanes have since been reopened, and traffic is easing.
