MORE than £30,000 was raised for a cancer charity as hundreds took on a returning cycling event.

The Helen Rollason Cancer Charity hosted its annual Ride for Helen event, with more than 800 keen cyclists taking part.

Cyclists of all ages and abilities were welcomed, with different length countryside routes chosen on the day, from six miles up to 65.

Helen Rollason client Wendy Lackenby, 66, from Boreham, took part in the 15-mile ride with her daughter Charlotte.

She said: “We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves thanks to all the organisers.

“We wanted to take part as my mother sadly passed from cancer and I am now at stage four – the charity has helped me immensely through my cancer journey and we wanted to give something back to say thank you.”

In total, more than £36,000 was raised for the cancer charity.

Community fundraiser for Helen Rollason Karen Mitchell said: “This event alone will fund 720 counselling appointments or 720 reflexology sessions for our clients.

“A massive thank you to everyone who joined us; to our riders, volunteers, friends and family who gave up their Sunday to help out; the day would not have been such a success without you all.”
