RYAN Maxwell has parted company with Braintree Town - with the club immediately beginning their search for his successor.

Maxwell announced the news on social media on Tuesday night, three days after the Iron completed their National League South campaign with a 1-0 home defeat against Billericay Town.

The Northern Irishman met with club chairman Lee Harding at the club's Cressing Road ground and has now departed, by mutual agreement.

Maxwell took over as Braintree manager in November 2020 having been player-manager at Walthamstow and it was his first managerial role at senior level.

He has managed to keep the Iron in the league for two seasons, despite a restricted budget in comparison to most of the rival clubs in the division.

The Iron finished up in 17th place this season, winning 11 of their 40 games.

Writing on social media, Maxwell said: 'Decided to part ways very amicably tonight. Been hell of a season @braintreetownfc so many positives, as a team an personal!

'Huge thanks to everyone at the club, pleased I put Braintree in a good light once again! created something good an honest with very little an punched above our weight!

'Some of the players were unknowns an now are getting offers they can’t turn down.

'We came in with Braintree 0 points from 7 games and dragged them off the bottom, saving the club before covid.

'I’m proud to have saved them again! My staff, Players unreal thank you'.

Braintree are expected to issue a formal statement over the change of manager today.
