BRAINTREE'S MP has said he is proud of the community after they have rallied to support Ukraine.

James Cleverly MP, whi is the Minister of State for Europe and North America, has further voiced his support of Ukraine's struggle against invasion.

The now war-torn country saw an invasion launched by Russia last week.

The conflict has sparked an outpouring of support from people across the world and now the Braintree District is doing its bit to support Ukrainian refugees.

One shop in particular has become a hub for people wanting to send supplies to Ukraine.

Minidelikatsey Kubus, which is based in Braintree, is a Polish deli and has this week donated hundreds of aid and supply items to Ukraine.

Residents and organisations across the Braintree area donated countless supplies which will be delivered to Przemysl, a town on the Polish-Ukrainian boarder.

Its first shipment left for Poland today.

Commenting on Braintree's efforts, Mr Cleverly said: "The people of the UK and local communities are rallying together to offer help and practical support to the people of Ukraine.

"I am proud, but not surprised, to see that, in Braintree, local people have put out a call to support Ukraine.

"These will be delivered free of charge to Przemysl, a Polish border town to Ukraine where they will be distributed to those in need.

"The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members - Braintree is a great community."

It comes as Mr Cleverly announced £20 million of donations to be matched by the government to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Mr Cleverly added the UK has also "trained 22,000 Ukrainian soldiers, supplied them with 2000 anti-tank missiles and pledged £3.5 billion for trade in key industries.

"We have also provided £100 million towards Ukraine’s economic reform and energy independence."
