A NEW set of upgrades to a popular village park are finally coming after being delayed for years.

Kelvedon Recreation Ground is set to get an upgrade to its park equipment, with the upgrades already underway.

The plans have been in place for several years and are finally being put into place after Covid-related delays.

Keveldon Parish Council Chairman India Jayatillake said: “I have been a parish councillor for five years, and these plans were there before that.

“The toddler play area in the Rec has been closed off since the fist lockdown, it never reopened due to a failed playground inspection, it just wasn’t up to scratch.

“The upgrades were delayed for around three years due to things like shipping, to availability of steel and resources.

“But now we can hopefully crack on with it, as it is a desperate priority.”

The plans detail upgrades to the toddler play area, which will see the existing roundabout, swings and slide replaced with a modern single unit.

There are other upgrades to the area of the park for older children too, aiming at open ended play.

Councillor Jayatillake added: “We wanted open ended play, using things like ropes and bars, for children to create their own games and figure out how they want to play with them.

“It will also be long lasting and long wearing, to make sure it is worth it.

“The work has already started, with it hopefully being completed by the end of March for the Easter holidays.

“Hopefully it will be a real positive contribution for the community.”
