Essex Police are on the scene in a field off Julien Court Road, next to the Braintree Recreation Ground.

The area has been cordoned off, with police at the entrances.

Witnesses say there are at least four cars on the scene.

The Braintree Recreation CIO Facebook page released a statement this morning.

They said: "We are aware of an incident on the Council owned field directly next to the Braintree Recreation Ground.

"We have no information and any updates will come from the Police, but of course we will be assisting where we can."

Essex Police have since revealed a woman has died and an investigation has been launched.

They released the following statement:

We have launched an investigation following the death of a woman in Braintree.

Our officers were called to Braintree Recreation Ground, in John Ray Street, at 11.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, 15 February, following reports the body of a woman had been found.

Her death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss, said:

“I appreciate that this may be concerning for people living in the local area, but situations like this are very unusual in Braintree and we have a team of specialist officers working to establish what happened.

“There is likely to be a significant police presence in the area throughout today and tomorrow.

“This is a fast-moving investigation, and my team is pursuing several lines of enquiry.

“I would urge anyone who was in or around Braintree Recreation Ground yesterday evening and saw anything unusual to get in touch with us.”
