BRIGADE bosses are appealing for more firefighters to come forward.
Essex Fire and Rescue is looking for on-call firefighters for the Witham station.
On-call firefighters respond to emergency calls from home or from work when their pagers go off instead of being based full-time at a fire station.
The pay is also slightly different, with on-call firefighters getting paid for the time they are available to work, as well as additional rates for attending incidents and training.
The number of call-outs is two to three times a week on average, for an hour at a time, with no two call-outs the same.
Those applying need to be over 18 years old when employment starts and meet the entry criteria conditions of living and or working in the right area.
A brigade spokesman said: “If you live or work within five minutes of Witham fire station, you could be paid to protect your community as an on-call firefighter.
“Play a key role in our communities, preventing and protecting our residents and visitors form harm and keeping Essex safe.”
