A PAIR of performers are set to debut their first play after landing an arts grant.

Hannah Fayers and Charlotte Blakemore made the most of lockdown and wrote their play based on the lives of paramedics.

Called ‘I Couldn’t Do Your Job’, the project and first ideas stem from 2017 but the duo, who are both 25 and from Braintree, have been working together for more than a year to write the play.

Now the play has just been awarded a grant by the Arts Council England to help the pair be able to perform the one hour long play.

The funding, from the National Lottery, offers a total of £15,000 but the pair say they didn’t claim the full amount.

The money meant they were able to hire actors and further refine the script to put on the production.

Now Hannah and Charlotte, who also attended Colchester Sixth Form College, are set to debut their new play at the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch.

Hannah was inspired by her dad who has worked as a paramedic for more than 30 years and paramedics were interviewed to help make the script.

The play focuses on bringing to life the real stories of paramedics.

Hannah said: “This is out first writing and producing endeavour.

“The play is unique as we interviewed real life paramedics and used their true stories and words to create the script.

“Receiving the funding is truly exciting and a great achievement and means that we can put a play on not only about paramedics but about local people’s experiences and show other aspiring artists dreams can come true.”

The performances will be on January 17 and 18 of and tickets can be found on the Queens Theatre’s website.

While written by Hannah and Charlotte, it will be directed by Scott Le Crass.

However, the pair are set to feature in the cast of the show along with actors employed by the Iceni Theatre Company, a group founded by Hannah and Charlotte.
