CORONAVIRUS cases have surged in two mid Essex neighbourhoods in the past week, the latest figures show.

An interactive government map displays colour-coded areas in each authority's neighbourhood wards to highlight the severity of its current coronavirus infection rate, from white, yellow and green through to blue, dark purple and black.

The 'blackspots' on the map indicate areas where case rates per 100,000 people are higher than 800.

There are two areas in mid Essex which have seen a dramatic rise in Covid cases, according to the interactive map.

South Woodham Ferrers North

This ward has seen an increase of Covid cases by a whopping 169 per cent in the seven days to November 17, bringing the total to 78.

The area currently has a case rate of 980.8 per 100,000 people.

Coggeshall & Kelvedon

Cases in the Coggeshall & Kelvedon ward have also surged in these seven days.

The area has recorded a total of 111 cases - up 217.1 per cent.

The case rate is now at 1,055.2 per 100,000 people.
