COUNCIL bosses say they’re delighted to hear their bin service is ranked among the best in the country.

Data released by Whitespace, municipal waste management technology experts, revealed bin collections in the Braintree District are some of the most accurate in the UK.

Figures shared show that Braintree refuse crews miss less than 0.052 per cent of their bin collections each year.

It means Braintree has the third most accurate bin collection in the UK, beaten by only Cornwall and South Hams.

Braintree Council environment boss, Wendy Schmitt, said: “It’s fantastic to hear we’re one of the top councils across the country for our waste collection service.

“This is a testament to the work our crews do on a daily basis, they really do go above and beyond their line of duty and have always worked hard to make sure residents waste has been collected on time, especially during the pandemic.

“I would also like to thank all of our residents for ensuring their bins and recycling sacks are out by 7am on the day of collection, which helps our crews minimise the number that are genuinely missed.”

However, the council did dispute some figures release by Whitespace.

The company claims the Braintree teams pick up around 1.7million bags of rubbish annually.

According to the council, this is incorrect and based on residual and recycling collections only for an estimated 65,000 properties from 2018 to 2019, it is actually in the region of 3.4million.
