HUNDREDS of spectators spanning the generations lined the streets of Harwich to enjoy the return of the popular Guy Carnival.

The annual event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic but returned with a bang on Saturday.

Community groups dressed up and paraded through the town in spooky costumes and outfits, while the satirical big-heads were unveiled.

John Wade, chairman of the Guy Carnival Committee, said the money raised from the event was still being counted but hailed it a success.

“Everyone seemed to have a great time and there were a lot more people than we were expecting,” he said.

“It was nice to see everyone come out and support the carnival after last year’s was cancelled.
