A TOWN councillor has been shortlisted for the title of Young Councillor of the Year.
Witham town councillor Chelsey Jay is nominated in the category in the National Association of Local Councillors’ star councillor awards for 2021.
The 30-year-old Independent has been a part of the council since 2019 and said this nomination is a reminder that “it’s so important for young people to be in this space”.

“My beautiful community of Witham have welcomed me with open arms as one of their representatives over the past couple of years and it means the world how enthusiastic they are for the young, fearless spirit I bring to local politics.
“They really are the best cheerleaders.
“It would be lovely to win for Witham but I am just so grateful to have been considered alongside some absolutely smashing finalists that show why it’s so important for young people to be in this space.”
