A NEW team of students have been appointed to make positive changes at their school.
The leadership team has been created by a group of year ten students at Maltings Academy in Witham.
A total of 60 students applied for the 27 positions, with Esmiralda Dajqi and Brandon Whyton given the role of head students, and Kate Hull as deputy head student.
Esmiralda said the position was an “honour and a privilege”.
She said: “Being appointed as head student is an honour – it is a great privilege to represent the school.
“Being appointed to this role allows me the opportunity to represent the students and the school.
“Through my role, I want to create more awareness and help to educate students on the importance of diversity and embrace the different cultures our students may have.
“I would like to develop our personal development curriculum and bring more awareness about the culture and diversity within the school to educate everyone, as well as being a role model to express my views and opinions on this topic “

Brandon added: “Ever since joining Maltings Academy in 2017, I have wished to be able to take on a significant leading role in the academy.
“I always take pride in everything I do and I believe I can continue to improve the academy.
“I hope to be a role model to the younger students who are growing up and maturing in our Maltings community.
“I believe I can do this through my hardworking, responsible manner.
