The areas where demand for family homes has soared during the pandemic have been revealed by Zoopla, and Braintree is one of them.

The town tops the list of the location where buying a three-bedroom sized family home has increased in popularity.

Last week the property website revealed that the number of three and four bedroom homes available for sale had dropped to a five-year low.

Monmouthshire in South Wales and Knowsley in Merseyside also top the list.

But Braintree had the biggest growth in demand for family homes, up 107 per cent.

Rankings are based on places which have seen the biggest rise in demand for the first three months of the year, compared with the average demand in 2020.

Zoopla defined demand as a measure of people who are actively viewing and engages in finding out more about a property.

Last month, The Times reported that house prices had fallen across the district.

The average house price in Braintree in February was £294,544, a 0.8 per cent decrease on January.
