Witham Town Council has joined the flood of tributes to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Speaking of his life, Town Mayor Councillor Clare Lager said. “He was one of the most remarkable men of our generation, an example to all of us. The Town Council joins with residents in expressing great sadness at his death.”

Buckingham Palace said Philip died peacefully in his sleep at Windsor Castle on Friday, two months before his 100th birthday, leaving the Queen and the royal family “mourning his loss”.

A book of condolence is open for local citizens to sign in the Town Hall’s Information Centre, however an online condolence book can also be signed which can be reached through the Town Council website.
