An unknown food substance left in a park has been making dogs ill.

Braintree Council issued a warning after the substance was found in an area at John Ray Park in Braintree.

As a result, the council increased patrols and began clearing waste immediately.

The council is also in the process of getting the food waste tested so find out exactly what it contains.

A Braintree Council spokesperson, said: “We have been made aware of an unknown food type substance being deposited in an area at John Ray Park in Braintree.

"This food type substance is reportedly making dogs ill.

"Regular patrols are being carried out and any waste is removed as soon as it’s discovered. We are also in the process of getting it tested so we can ascertain what exactly it contains.

"We are appealing to dog walkers to be careful when walking their dogs in the park and to be vigilant along with other users and not to pick up or remove any of the food waste.

"Instead, please report to us immediately where it will be cleared and disposed of safely."
