A TEENAGER has been given the chance to study at a prestigious music school.

Max Cornelius, 17, from Kelvedon, has an offer to study at Leeds Conservatoire, previously known as Leeds College of Music.

The college provides expert education in music and performing arts, with performance-based courses to help prepare students for a career in music, performance and production.

Max, who is currently a music scholar at Felsted School, said the news is “hugely exciting”.

He said: “As a flautist, it would be wonderful to study the flute to a different level, being able to play more advanced pieces suited to my preferred genre of romantic music, as well as being able to delve far more in-depth into the study of music than covered in A Level.

“The opportunity that the conservatoire offers, to study with internationally renowned teachers using world-class facilities, is hugely exciting.”

Felsted has a partnership with Junior Guildhall, allowing students the opportunity to study at a top conservatoire in London once a week.

Felsted director of music Will Warns said: “I was delighted to receive the news of Max’s offer from Leeds Conservatoire.

“During his time at Felsted it has been great to watch Max develop his musical skills, playing in various ensembles such as the school orchestra, and giving a number of solo performances.

“This course will provide him with the opportunity to develop his flute-playing with specialist tuition and exciting performance opportunities.’’
