Christmas shopping will be very different this year but intu Watford will be open to those looking for a last-minute present for loved ones.

intu Watford has confirmed its centre will reopen fully on December 2 when the lockdown ends, and has also announced its Christmas and New Year opening hours.

On December 21, 22, 23, intu Watford will be open from 9am until 8pm, while on Christmas Eve, doors will be open from 9am until 5pm.

The centre will be closed on Christmas Day before reopening again on Boxing Day until 7pm.

Shoppers are being reminded by intu that wearing a face covering in store in mandatory, unless medically exempt. There will also be hand sanitising stations at the entrances and exits to the centre.

With shopping also the most common exposure to Covid-19 in Hertfordshire in November, director of public health Jim McManus is urging people to shop safely.

This includes wearing a face covering, sanitising hands, keeping a distance from people, and only touching items that are going to be bought.

intu Watford general manager Vicki Costello said: "Safety is our absolutely priority and we are pleased to be able to reopen for non-essential retailers and give our shoppers a feeling of Christmas magic.

"Our Christmas lights will shine bright and illuminate the shopping centre as normal and festive music will play throughout to bring joy to everyone.

"Families will be able to do some festive shopping, grab a mince pie or two and even book a restaurant to eat, drink and be merry. There is plenty to look forward to this Christmas at intu Watford."
