A VILLAGE has created a scarecrow trail to keep families entertained over the school holiday.

People in Ferring are hunting to find letters dotted across the area that make up a mystery word.

Scarecrows with the letters written on their pumpkin heads are plotted on a map of the village and people have to search to unscramble the hidden message.

There are seven pumpkins to find in north Ferring and 11 to find in south Ferring. The letters in the north form one word and the letters in the south form another.

If unscrambled correctly, people are in with a chance of winning a prize.

Several companies contacted the village organisers to donate, allowing the festival to award prizes to the top six scarecrows in each of three categories.

Organiser Lynzie Crompton said her daughter had an “absolute ball” making their scarecrow.

She said: “We have had such an overwhelming response to the scarecrows and people taking part in the trail.

“It really has given the village such a buzz and it has shown the Ferring community spirit.

“All I wanted to do was to make one person happy and smile during these times.”

The trail has been such a success, that organisers have agreed to run the event next year.
