POLICE are set to increase patrols following a spate of thefts of car parts.

The Essex Police - Braintree team has urged residents to report any suspicious activity after seeing a rise in catalytic converter thefts in Witham and Halstead.

In a tweet, officers said: "There has been a recent increase of catalytic converter thefts in Halstead and Witham.

"Vehicles being targeted were mainly VW Polos and Hondas.

"We have a patrol plan in place but if you see anything suspicious - please report it."

The plea comes just weeks after a driver spoke to the Times about a catalytic converter being stolen from their Toyota, which was parked in George Yard shopping centre car park.

The theft occurred on the first floor, sometime between 8am and 5pm on Monday, September 7.

Anyone with information about the rise in catalytic converter thefts should contact Braintree Police Station on 101.
