A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of swindling holidaymakers at airports with a sob story.
The suspect is alleged to have approached visitors at the North Terminal at Gatwick.
He pleaded for cash for what he claimed was a journey home, asking for a small amount each time.
One report suggested the suspect claimed he was a language teacher who had just arrived from Germany and needed cash for a bus fare to get back “home” to northern England.
Sussex Police have investigated incidents on August 31 and September 10.
They say a 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
After being interviewed the man was released on police bail until October 8 while enquiries continue.
PC Roxanne Carpenter said; “We are asking anyone who has been approached at a UK airport in a similar way recently to get in touch with us.”
Anyone with information can report it to Sussex Police online or call 101 and quote 749 of 31/08.
