Do you think you know the most dangerous for cyclists roads in Weymouth? 

An interactive map shows you where ‘fatal’, ‘serious’ and ‘slight’ cycling accidents have happened in your area by using the latest police and government data.

More than 21 per cent of people cycle in Dorset according to the latest government statistics and that number is only set to rise. 

Crash Map shows that 67 cycling accidents occurred in Weymouth from 2014 to 2019.

The Department of Transport measured cycling levels during the tightest period of lockdown, from March 16 to June 1, which showed that the activity had risen by 300 per cent.  

Director of campaigns for the national cycling charity, Brake, Joshua Harris said:

"Two-thirds of adults feel that it is too dangerous to cycle on roads which is unsurprising given the threats cyclists face from fast moving motor traffic and with such limited space for cycling on our roads."

Dorset Council recently pedestrianised areas of Weymouth harbour to facilitate the reopening of the hospitality industry in July - however, these plans are not yet permanent. 

Additionally, as part of resurfacing works on Dorchester Road cycling lanes were made wider in an aim to encourage more people to take up cycling.

There were 34 cycling accidents in Weymouth between 2014 and 2019 with the majority happening around the town centre and harbour. 

Town Bridge and St Thomas Street saw two 'slight' accidents in 2016 and 2018. 

Whilst there were two accidents on King Street by the Commercial Road turning.

From Preston to Buckland Ripers and Weymouth, there were 67 accidents in the five year period. 

A key accident blackspot is around the Manor Roundabout with two 'slight' and one 'serious' accident. 

There were eight incidents along the busy Chickerell Road from Rodwell to Charlestown.
