PRIVATE school students have been recognised with a prestigious certificate for their fundraising efforts to support some of the most disadvantaged children in the world.

Felsted School has been awarded a certificate from the Pearson National Education Awards for its work on the Safi Coffee Project.

The pupil-led initiative imports Ugandan coffee into the UK for sale in partnership with Hull Collegiate School and Highgate School and through links with Teach Uganda, one of Felsted’s core charities.

The money raised goes towards changing lives in the Kanungu region.

Five years since it launched, the scheme now brings in £30,000 per year, helping fund the education of 45 pupils in the African country.

Felstedians visit Uganda every two years, teaching in schools, helping to build facilities and working in the community where they tend to their coffee plantation.

Reverend Nigel Little, Chaplain at Felsted School, said: “As a Trustee of Teach Uganda, I am delighted Felsted School is promoting and distributing Safi Coffee amongst its community.

“As a result, we can ensure that the funds raised from our sales are sent directly back to help the children of Uganda.”
