Braintree Council is installing new food and drink carton bins will be set up across the district to boost recycling.
The special collection recycling bins for cartons will be at 13 locations across the district, including four supermarket sites and three main car parks.
The scheme, which launched on Monday, will run initially as a 12 month trial to see if residents use it correctly.
All cartoons placed in the bins will be baled and transported to a dedicated carton recycling facility in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
The council is working with recycling firm Ace UK to deliver the project and says it is being introduced to boost recycling in the district.
Environment boss Wendy Schmitt added: "We are fully aware that our residents are keen to recycle as much as they can and the council is committed to finding innovative ways to give residents the opportunity to do their bit for the environment.
"They have always responded well to the different recycling schemes we’ve implemented over the years, and we’re delighted that ACE UK and Printwaste Recycling are supporting us to help us continue and increase the number of cartons recycled in our area.
"This is a perfect example of how the public and private sector can work together to find solutions to benefit everyone involved."
The locations where the bins will be set up are:
- Station Approach car park, Braintree
- Sainsbury Car Park, Braintree
- Causeway House, Braintree
- Marks Farm Tesco's car park, Braintree
- Great Notley Tesco's car park, Braintree
- Football club, Coggeshall
- Playing fields, Finchingfield
- Newlands car park , Witham

Council bosses ask residents to wash and squash all cartoons before recycling.
Only paper-based liquid food and drinks cartons can be placed in the bins.
