RESIDENT parking permits are to be reinstated next month as lockdown restrictions are relaxed.

Southampton City Council will reinstate enforcement of permit parking restrictions on July 1.

The permits were temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Resident Parking Zone permits ensure that the limited parking space available is distributed fairly to households within the zone.

From July 1, vehicles parked within Zones 1–18, 20, 22 & 23 will need to display a permit.

A temporary three-month permit can be purchased, for a limited time only, for £15.

These permits will benefit residents who live within the boundary of a Resident Parking Zone and would not normally be eligible.

Car parking fees to be reinforced across Southampton following suspension due to coronavirus

Councillor Steve Leggett, Cabinet Member for Green City & Place said: “As businesses, shops and other services start to reopen, we feel that now is the right time to reinstate the enforcement of Permit Parking Restrictions.

"This is needed to manage non-resident parking within the parking zones but due to the current circumstances, we want to support those who may not normally have access to permits.

"We recognise that many residents are continuing to stay at home to look after children, to work from home where they can or because they are having to shield due to health conditions and we want to continue to support you.

"If you need to renew, or apply for a temporary parking permit, please act as soon as possible to avoid fines.”

Residents eligible for a permit should apply for one as normal, with details available on the Southampton City Council website.

For temporary permits, residents will need to download an application form and return by email to parking.services@southampton.gov.uk.

If residents are unable to apply online, a form can be requested to be sent via post by calling 023 8083 3008.
