CAMPAIGNERS insist their fight to stop plans to build a new incinerator will continue despite experts giving it the go ahead.

Nick Unsworth says the Parishes Against Incinerator group is now seeking legal advice over the ruling on the proposed waste plant at Rivenhall Airfield.

The group has long campaigned against the scheme amid fears over increased pollution.

The Environment Agency has today granted a revised permit which gives Gent Fairhead and Co the all clear to build the incinerator and 35m chimney.

Reacting to the announcement, Mr Unsworth said: "We are really disappointed and believe the Environment Agency has taken the wrong approach.

"We have already consulted our solicitors and will see what they say. We are prepared to take this to the courts."

The plans for the incinerator have been widely opposed by members of the public, Braintree Council and Witham MP Priti Patel.

Mr Unsworth added: "From our point of view, we have helped slow down this whole process and made sure the public's voice has been heard.

"This would have gone through the system unchecked years ago without our campaigning.

"But this is certainly not over yet, we will keep on fighting."
