A COUPLE of garden sheds have been completely destroyed after going up in flames.

Firefighters were called to Beazley End in Wethersfield yesterday (Thursday, March 26) morning after the two garden buildings caught fire.

The crew arrived to find both sheds engulfed in flames and it took them more than an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Braintree and Witham Times:

An investigation found the sheds had caught fire after a nearby bonfire had been blown by the wind in their direction.

Essex Fire and Rescue is appealing for homeowners to take extra care with bonfires.

Wethersfield watch manager Darren Hockley said: "With more people at home, the service has been called to a number of bonfire related incidents.

Braintree and Witham Times:

"If you’re planning on having a bonfire, please follow our advice which includes setting them well away from sheds, outbuildings, fences and trees as they can quickly get out of control.

"Make sure to keep an eye on bonfires at all times and keep water nearby if the fire does start to burn out of control."

Safety advice for bonfires can be found online at essex-fire.gov.uk.
