Overnight closures on a major roundabout linking Braintree and Chelmsford have been postponed due to weather warnings.

Sheepcotes Roundabout on Essex Regiment Way was due to temporarily close on Saturday and Sunday night.

Now, due a weather warning from the Met Office ahead of Storm Dennis, which is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds, the works have been put on hold.

The decision has been made in the interest of safety for the public and workforce.

Temporary surfaces are in place on all approached to the roundabout until February 21.

The works are park of a £7.3 million scheme from Essex County Council to improve links between Braintree and Chelmsford.

The plans include a dedicated left turn slip road from Braintree Road to Essex Regiment Way, reducing the side of the central roundabout to allow two traffic lanes and widening the roundabout approach on Essex Regiment Way.

Work is set to be complete in Spring 2020.

Essex highways are working to reschedule the overnight closures.
