AN INDOOR football team has kicked off the New Year with a bang after landing a new kit.

A Braintree Futsal Club will kick off the new year with a cash boost from a leading regional housebuilder.

Braintree Futsal Club has been awarded £1,000 as part of the Persimmon Homes Essex Community Champions scheme.

The national match-funding programme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people.

The club, based at Notley Sports Centre, applied for the funding to purchase new kit and equipment for an upcoming tournament.

Jack Harrod, head coach, said: “We offer training sessions for young members of the community aged four to 13 as well as running youth elite groups and a men’s senior squad.

“The club offers a great way for our young members to develop skills and socialise.

“We are so happy to have been awarded this funding and the team will be over the moon to receive new kit and equipment.

“Thank you, Persimmon Homes, for your support.”

Phil Standen, managing director for Persimmon Homes Essex, said: “We know a gesture, such as providing new kits, can be a real boost for any sports team and we wish Braintree Futsal Club all the best ahead of their tournament.

“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
