Heroic residents have been praised for helping police deal with fallen trees.

Special Constable Simon Jesse tweeted to confirm he had dealt with four different incidents of trees blocking roads in the Braintree area on Tuesday evening.

The trees were felled by strong winds brought on by storm Brendan which wreaked havoc across much of the UK.

Taking to Twitter, SC Jesse wrote: "Four trees cleared tonight but I have to applaud the community spirit.

"At every one, I either had an offer of help or major work was already under way.

"Thank you to you all in helping clear the roads."

One of the roads affected was in Beazley End where PC Tom Raes was called to help.

He too encountered helpful residents who were able to help officers remove fallen trees.

PC Raes tweeted: "Huge tree down at BeazleyEnd in Braintree.

"Kind local resident is helping us to try and clear the carriageway, however we’re struggling with this one.

"Not helped by inconsiderate members of the public endangering us by moving our cones and signs at the end of the road."

PC Raes later confirmed the tree had been removed after an hour of work.

Residents in Rayne woke upon Wednesday to find Shalford Road also blocked by a fallen tree.
