AN angry resident says fly-tippers and drug dealers are making her life a misery.

Progress Court, in Braintree, is a popular residential area but residents claim it is suffering from high levels of littering.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, has lived there for two months and is worried rats will infest the area because of the level of litter.

She has raised the problem with Greenfields housing association which runs the complex.

“Upon moving there there was fly-tipping outside my flat,” she said.

“I reported it straight away and it was eventually picked up after some moaning to Greenfields on my part.

“I also mentioned the issue of litter, drug paraphernalia, glass bottles and general mess in the car park at the back which leads to the alleyway to B&M, which I was told Greenfields would come and clean up.

“It’s all in the bushes, the grass, the pavements – it’s filthy.”

After a series of complaints, she was told that rangers would visit the area to clear it up, however the mess still remains.

The resident said: “My concern is that rats will infest the area because of the level of litter.

“I have been told twice now that rangers would visit the area to clear it up and the mess is still there.

“I’m expected to to pay my rent and keep the communal area of my building tidy. I expect the same of Greenfields to look after the areas that they own outside of my tenancy agreement and not have them looking like a tip.”

Reports of drug dealers hanging around the area have also been sent to the police.

The resident said: “I’ve called the police twice because of drug dealers hanging around outside my block of flats and alleyway.

“This happens at all time of the day and night, and it’s concerning for all the elderly residents and vulnerable people.

“The police have taken reports from me and done nothing to increase police presence in this area. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.”

A spokesperson from Greenfields Community Housing said: “We cleared two fly-tips at Progress Court when they were reported to us in September.

“Now that we’ve been made aware of further issues, we will visit the area shortly for a general clear-up and litter-pick.

“We work alongside Essex Police and Braintree Council to tackle anti-social behaviour and keep our communities safe.
