While reading through the Braintree and Witham Times (December 5), there were two items which caught my eye.

The first was the letter from Niall Thorogood, saying Hedingham models was closing – a shop I have been in often.

It means I will now have to go to Chelmsford or further afield to carry on my collecting.

It also means the loss of another independent trader and there are not many independent traders left, which in my opinion is why people from out of town come.

This brings me nicely to the other item, which concerns the pedestrianisation of the High Street.

I think it is a good idea because at least our council tax will not be used to level the cobblestones every few years.

There was one paragraph which makes me wonder what attracts Mr Eley when he goes shopping.

He states “If we can have a few different cafes, bars and restaurants as well then it makes Braintree town centre a place to come for a day out.”

Personally, when I go out for the day, it is to visit the type of shops that are not trading in Braintree. Though I do have a meal while I am out, it is not the reason for me being there.
