THE MAYOR of Greater Manchester wants the region to become the “new capital” of business.
Andy Burnham outlined his vision for the future of Greater Manchester in a speech to over 400 key figures in London this week.
“We need to pass power down to people and our communities, we need to empower our regions,” the mayor said.
“The 20th Century gave rise to anti-social enterprise, the 21st Century must give rise to social enterprise. A deregulated, dividend-led economy isn’t working for society.”
Mr Burnham was the keynote speaker at the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2019, an annual event to celebrate the work of social enterprises from across the UK where he spoke to entrepreneurs, business leaders and company bosses.
He pointed to the creation of a new Social Enterprise Advisory Board, led by social entrepreneur and Chief Executive of Sharp Futures, Rose Marley and called on social enterprises in Greater Manchester to reach out if they wanted to get involved in the advisory board or receive guidance on how to improve their businesses.
