A SENIOR banker has denied causing death by careless driving after a crash on a Hampshire junction.

Derek Andrew Shakespeare, 51, appeared at Winchester Crown Court to plead not guilty to causing the crash in which Peter Lowe died.

It allegedly happened whilst Shakespeare was driving a 12-reg Land Rover Discovery at the junction of A343 and B3058 Romsey Road, at Nether Wallop, near Andover, on October 28 2018.

Mr Lowe, 32, of Winterslow Road, Porton, was riding a Yamaha motorbike and was declared dead at the scene.

Shakespeare, of Snooks Lane, Walhampton, near Lymington, was remanded on unconditional bail after a 15-minute hearing at Winchester Crown Court.

The Recorder of Winchester Judge Keith Cutler set a trial for June 22 next year at Winchester Crown Court.

Shakespeare is a banker, a senior figure at Barclays Investment Bank since 2010.

He is also a company director and also sits on the board of Walhampton preparatory school and the Royal Ocean Racing Club.
