Road bosses have called for plans to build a new Aldi store in Braintree to be delayed.
Highways England has asked Braintree Council not to make a final ruling on the supermarket’s planning application before March 2020.
Aldi is seeking permission to construct the store off Millennium Way, which runs over the A120 and is near to Galleys Corner roundabout.
Highways England has called for the delay because of its own plans to build two slip roads on the A120 which will connect it directly with Millennium Way.
Its official response to the plans states: “This area is traffic sensitive and has a complicated and long history.
“There are a few improvements in preparation to ease conditions and these need to be considered alongside this proposal.”
The Government body further added it has yet to hold discussions with Aldi about the proposal for the new shop.
Braintree Council is expected to make a ruling on the proposed scheme some time next year.
