I CAN understand the anger and dismay expressed by traders that their business should be omitted from the current Braintree Council leaflet advertising Christmas events and entertainment ("Shops left ‘disgusted’ by Christmas leaflet snub", Times, November 7).

I am unaware that the Braintree Town Partnership contacted local charities inviting them to publicise their events.

So to make up for that I am writing to confirm that once again the Friends of Braintree Community Hospital will be holding its annual Carols Round the Tree on Sunday, December 8 at 3pm at Braintree Baptist Church.

The event has always attracted a large number of people and such support is needed now more than ever before given the major changes taking place in the shape of the NHS services in Mid Essex.

Admission to the event is free but there will be a retiring collection in aid of the Wilderness Foundation based in Chatham Green, which works with dozens of youngsters from the Braintree district who have major learning or behavioural challenges.

Once again the Friends are delighted that the singing will be led by Bocking Brass who will also add their distinctive contribution, as will children from Lyons Hall Primary School.

Father Christmas hopes to arrive (subject to roadworks) after the one-hour long event and refreshments will be available at the same time. Be sure to get there early to reserve a seat at this event.
