A POPULAR firework display went off with a bang despite bad weather conditions.

The annual fireworks at Witham Rugby Club took place over the weekend with more than 1,500 visitors.

Due to wet and windy weather conditions on the night a number of the larger rides had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Some of the stalls also had to be relocated from the field to the car park due to the rain.

However it was still a success as fireworks from 2018 British firework champions, Illusion Fireworks, lit up the sky over the rugby club in Spa Road.

Club Secretary Scott Davis said: “Numbers were down because of the weather but everyone was still dazzled by the fireworks, they were amazing and filled the sky with light, colour and sound.

“Illusion Fireworks have already been retained for 2020, for another fantastic evening.”

Guests were treated to a variety of sweet treats including crepes and candy floss as well as pulled pork and traditional burgers whilst they gathered round the bonfire to shelter from the cold weather.

Illusion Fireworks will be returning to the Rugby Club in 2020.
