A GIFT shop is hosting a charity cake sale this weekend for a mental health charity.

Family-run Velvet Sunrise, in Braintree, is hosting its sixth cake sale to raise money for Mind this Friday and Saturday.

Mind aim to provide support and advice to anyone suffering from mental health problems.

The Harry Potter-themed fundraising event started in 2014 when a member of the family, Phoenix Boreham, shaved his head to raise money for the cause.

Since then the family have had their charity pot stolen twice from the shop.

The last theft was in September 2018. Luckily the crooks were caught and forced to pay back what they took.

Boss Shana Boreham said: “We are very lucky to have probably the loveliest customer base in Braintree in my opinion, they are all such generous people.

“In the month following the pot being stolen we had over £500 in donations.

“We cannot thank our customer enough for their generosity.”, and we all know someone who suffers with mental health, or even suffer ourselves, so it is an absolutely fantastic cause."
