Nominations are now open for the Active Essex Sports Awards 2019.

The awards recognise inspiring individuals, clubs and organisations who help get adults more active.

Active Essex chairman Azeem Akhtar said: “There are nearly 27,800 people in Braintree who do not take part in the recommended 30 minutes of physical exercise a day, but there are hundreds who are helping to inspire more people to get up off their sofa.

“Who are they? We want you to tell us so we can celebrate what they have achieved and share the stories of those they have helped.”

Gymnast and five-time Olympic medallist Max Whitlock is returning for the third year to present the young sports personality of the year award.

The other categories include sports personality of the year, changing lives through sport and physical activity, community club of the year and unsung hero.
